Breast and Cervical Cancer Program

Since January 1997, Greene County Health Department has been participating in the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program, which is federally funded through a cooperative agreement between the Illinois Department of Public Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Breast and cervical cancer screenings and treatment are free to eligible women in Illinois. Governor Rod R. Blagojevich recently expanded the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program. Now more women than ever before can take advantage of the free screenings and treatment. Even if you have already been diagnosed with cancer, you may receive free treatment if you qualify.

You may be able to receive free services if you are a woman:

bullet Living in Illinois
bullet Without insurance
bullet35 to 64 years old
*younger women may be eligible in some cases

Services include clinical breast examinations, screening/diagnostic mammograms, pelvic examinations and Pap Smears, colposcopies, and other diagnostic tests, notification of results and reminder notices, client education and referrals.

To enroll in IBCCP, women can call the Women’s Health Line 1-888-522-1282 (1-800-547-0466 TTY) or their local IBCCP agency. The Women’s Health Line will be able to walk women through the eligibility requirements and the screening process.

In Greene County, women can call the Greene County Health Department 1-217-942-6961, and ask for the Illinois Breast and Cervical Cancer Program.

Greene County Health Department also provides mammograms to 25 low income, uninsured, or underinsured women below the age of 50 who are asymptomatic, and provides education and outreach regarding screening and early detection to Greene County residents.

This program has been made possible, in part, by a grant from The Mammograms Save Lives License Plate fund administered by The Peoria Memorial Affiliate office of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
