WIC Nutrition Program

The Women, Infant and Children’s Program is a federally funded supplementary food and health program.  WIC has been in operation since 1978 in Greene County.  The purpose of this program is to provide supplementary food packages to eligible families to improve the health of infants, children, and pregnant or breastfeeding mothers.  It is administered through the Greene County Health Department.  Nutrition education classes are held every two weeks at the Health Department.  The Maternal and Child Health Nurses present programs on breastfeeding, feeding infants, toddlers, and preschoolers, food budgeting, meal preparation, and good nutrition during pregnancy.

Regarding income eligibility guidelines for 2010-2011: There has been a delay in publication of the 2010-2011 guidelines by HHS, which are used to create the WIC income eligibility guidelines. WIC program offices have been advised to use the 2009-2010 guidelines for now.
